Spotlight: The Hive is born

4 Comments 08 February 2011

The Hive, a new development by Symmetry developments, is set to debut in Etobicoke.

This 6 storey, 20 unit condominium loft will be locate at the corner of The Queensway Boulevard. and Islington Avenue.
Designed by Teeple Architects, the Hive will bring a unique infill project to Etobicoke. This bold architectural statement will be a first in Etobicoke.
“The Queensway is already a neighborhood on the upswing.  The ingredients are there: restaurants, entertainment venues, shopping destinations, parks, area amenities, access to transit.” Said Sayf Hassan of Symmetry Developments.
“Introducing appropriate density along the avenues in the form of modern, mixed-use buildings will promote pedestrian traffic and encourage local businesses and shops. The Hive intends on bolstering the image of the neighborhood via bold, modern design and setting a benchmark for ensuing development.”
The building will focus on maintaining and respecting the area, without compromising the architectural integrity of the project.
“A lot of energy was put into ensuring that the building would not be out of context.  We wanted it to meet the street warmly, yet be architecturally intriguing and unique.  The zinc cladding softens the modern angles and the scale of the structure ensures an intimate relationship with the street.  The retail component at grade establishes continuity and connection with the neighborhood shops. Good design is a conversation with the surroundings, not a monologue.”
The suites – ranging from 1 bedroom – 2 bedroom plus den, and sized from 523 Sq. Ft. to 1075 Sq. Ft., will focus on first time buyers and downsizers who appreciate modern design.
The units – designed by DKStudio – will feature stainless steel appliances, custom kitchen cabinets and engineered wood flooring. The suites will also feature 10’ ceilings, exposed concrete and an open concept feel.
Prices at the Hive start in the mid to low 200’s, and expected to launch in early Marc

This development is not looking like any sort of good quality project. Seems scattered and poorly organized.
