Anyone who has been following the Toronto Star’s NewInHomes.com blog understands our love of the Canary District. Ever since we first reported on the project back in April, we were intrigued by the possibilities for one of the last underdeveloped areas of our city. As we continue to learn more about the Canary District, the impact it will have becomes clearer.
It’s easy to talk about how exciting the project is, but it’s even easier to show you. Recently, the team at Dundee Kilmer released an awesome new video presenting their vision for the site, and what we have to look forward to in the next few years.
Enjoy!

Pretty cool!
As you can see from the video, the Canary District will be one of the coolest master-planned communities in the Greater Toronto Area. What stood out the most for us was the focus on walkability, and the open areas. It’s no secret that driving is quickly becoming a thing of the past, so we need to start focusing on pedestrian infrastructure even more.
“We knew we could not move the streets, but we also knew that we could focus on building around those streets. We wanted to have wide, open, walkable communities. In fact, we were told we left 100,000 square feet of density on the table, but that was our goal,” said Dundee’s Jason Lester in our interview with him a few weeks ago. “In the Canary District, you can take the roads to get where you want to go, but there will also be a significant focus on public walkways. No one has done that before.”
This development is going to change our city. Dundee Kilmer has broken ground, but has yet to open the doors to the public. Be sure to register here, as things are moving forward quickly.
