The Toronto Star is reporting that Pinewood Studios, located at Commissioners St. and Bouchette St., is planning to develop its land into a mixed-use development of film studio, hotel, condominiums, office and retail space.
The plan, as developed by the HOK Planning Group, is to build a “living studio” that will see streetscapes mimicking some of the more famous streets in the world.
The land is currently owned by Toronto Waterfront Studios Development Inc, with is a group of investors and includes Castlepoint, Conweb Corp, ROI Capital, and BUILD Toronto.
Castlepoint now has an interest in two high profile waterfront sections, with its recent purchase of land at the corner of Lakeshore Rd and Cherry St., as we reported on November 4th.
The total size of the development is expected to be 2.5 million sq. ft., including four condominium towers and two mid-rise buildings overlooking the shipping channel with water front views. At this point, estimations are not confirmed, but it is expected that there will be over 1,000 condominium units, with prices on average below $500 per Sq. Ft.
The hotel room will house upwards of 180 rooms and a public plaza at the corner of commissioners St and Don Roadway, which will act as a gateway to the studio.
Retail stores would be located at the same location as the hotel, and include cafés, restaurants and retail options.
There is no doubt that this is an ambitious plan, but will go a long way to help the development of Toronto’s waterfront.
