The Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO) is pleased to announce the Board of Directors for 2009/2010.

Chris Antipas, Vice President of ICC Property Management was elected President of the Board with Dean McCabe (Brookfield Residential Services) elected to the position of Vice President.

Allan Rosenberg (DEL Property Management) assumes the position of Secretary, while Steve Christodoulou (ICC Property Management) becomes Treasurer. Serving as directors are John Belford (Caber Management Services), Cynthia Chung (DEL Property Management), Donna Farr (Brookfield Residential Services), Karen Reynolds (Wilson, Blanchard Management) and Robert Weinberg (Percel).

Incoming ACMO President Chris Antipas, a 17 year veteran of the condominium industry, has an ambitious slate of initiatives for his 2009/2010 term which involves both government relations and expanding the base of registered condominium managers in Ontario.

“Revisions to The Condominium Act and the impact of the Harmonized Sales Tax are going to be priority issues” declares Antipas. “Enacted in the late 90’s, the Act needs revisions which will facilitate condominium corporations in many areas including greener, more environmentally-friendly property maintenance programs and retrofits. Equally important is the financial impact of HST to both monthly maintenance fees and reserve funds which will total almost $200 million annually.”

Antipas also plans to activate programs which reach out to condominium-rich communities outside the GTA. “Condominium development is surging ahead in markets like Ottawa, London and even northern Ontario,” say Antipas. “We need to support professional education and management training by utilizing the technology available today through live webcasting, on-line courses and webinars so that property managers across Ontario can benefit from RCM training and the respected designation.”

Outgoing ACMO President John Damaren, Vice President of Malvern Property Management, may be leaving the top job, but he won’t be far from the nucleus of ACMO activity. John will continue to bring his knowledge and experience to both the “Government Relations” and “Certification and Standards” Committees.

ACMO annual award winners for outstanding achievement on behalf of the Association and the profession of condominium management  were also announced with past ACMO Board President Harold Cipin (Times Property Management) receiving both RCM of the Year and the President’s Award. Corporate Member of the Year was awarded to Maple Ridge Community Management for its outstanding performance with employees, clients and suppliers. Lisa Kay (Maxium Condo Finance Group) earned Associate Member of the Year for her contribution both to ACMO and the condominium community.

Formed in 1977, ACMO represents the collective industry goals of its 1200 provincial members. Dedicated to the advancement of the condominium management profession in Ontario, ACMO provides formal educational programs culminating with the respected Registered Condominium Manager (RCM) designation which has enjoyed more than 30% growth during the last two years. (December 2008) ACMO property managers (RCMs) and corporate members represent 34% of condominium corporations and residential units in Ontario. (May 2009)
