One of the most interesting areas in the City of Toronto is the Entertainment District. Between the vibrant nightlife, the trendy restaurants, and of course the high-rise condominiums, the area is booming. Some intriguing projects in the area include Festival and Cinema Towers by Daniels, Bisha Hotel and Residence by Lifetime Development, Tableau Condos by Urban Capital, Malibu Investments, and ALIT Developments, and there have been many proposals submitted for any remaining sites.

One proposal we have been keeping close tabs on is at 355 King St. West, the home of the Westinghouse Building. Back in April, we wrote a blog entry about the plans, describing the project as much as we could. What we didn’t know then was who would be the developers of the project. Thanks to our friends over at RealNet, we can now confirm that the site has been purchased, and that the Remington Group is involved.

The Easton Group of Companies, a hotel group, has purchased 355 King St. West, and has brought on The Remington Group to handle the residential side of the development. Easton’s purchase is interesting, given their background in hotel developments. Some of their brands include W Hotel and the Hilton Garden Inns throughout the Greater Toronto Area. Although there is nothing confirmed, one can expect that this development will follow the lead of the others in the area (specifically Bisha and the Four Seasons Hotel and Residence) and be a joint hotel and residence project.

Another interesting aspect of the proposal is the heritage building on the site. The mid-rise Westinghouse Building was built in 1927, and it will be interesting to see how Remington and Easton will incorporate it into the project. Currently, the development application calls for two towers of 47 and 42 storeys respectively, and a total of 661 residential units.
