On March 11, 2011 the Toronto Community Housing Corporation (TCHC) submitted a plan to redevelop and revitalize ‘Alexandra Park’. Framed east to west between Spadina and Bathurst, and north to south from Dundas to Queen, Alexandra Park is a mix of private and public housing.
In the 1960′s, the City undertook a large-scale, subsidized housing initiative in the neighbourhood. Since that time, the area has served thousands of Torontonians and new Canadians. The passing decades have weathered much of the area and its supporting infrastructure. To better serve the local community, the TCHC is looking to rebuild Alexandra Park into an area that all of Toronto will be proud of for many generations in the future.
The plan will see the demolition of the aged structures and the birth of 333 modern townhouse and apartment units. The proposal will also see 1,540 new condominium and townhome units. TCHC also plans to renovate 473 existing apartment units. Alexandra Park will be the second neighborhood that the TCHC is planning to redevelop, following in the successful footsteps of Regent Park.
