Angel Developments’ is now part of Toronto’s new home construction scene.
They are moving forward with a development at 8 Gloucester St. at the corner of Gloucester St. and Yonge St.
An application submitted to the City of Toronto sees Angel Developments proposing to build a 29 storey mixed use residential tower, with 211 units, including ground floor retail and commercial spaces.
There will be 34 parking spaces in a 2 storey below ground parking garage. Hariri Pontarini Architects have teamed with Angel Developments to design the proposed new tower.
The interesting aspect of this development is the heritage building at 2 Gloucester St. The Gloucester Mews ‘Masonic Hall’ building is one of the more interesting buildings in the Yonge and Bloor strip.
The building was initially built in 1888, and was home to the Masons for 33 years before they moved to a different downtown location. More recently, the building has been home to multiple retail chains, including ‘Fire on the East Side’, ‘Oylmpic 76 Pizza’ and Fly Nightclub’.
The application suggests that the developer is looking to fully rehabilitate the building and incorporate it into the design of the new tower. We have seen this sort of rehabilitation before, with Tridel’s James Cooper Mansion at Bloor and Sherbourne.
The area of Yonge and Gloucester is continuing to see a number of new developments such as Five Condos at St. Joseph, Eleven Residences on St. Joseph St., as well as U Condos phases one and two.
We will have more information on this development as it becomes available.
