In Development: 327 King St. West
‘Restaurant Row’, a series of older properties on King St. West, has become subject to a development application.

The site will see a 39-storey development, one that will feature 201 suites on a three-storey podium. There will also be a 6-level underground parking garage, supplying 114 parking spaces.

Another interesting aspect of the development will be the podium. The three-storey podium will be comprised of over 10,000 square feet of retail, which is a standard in Toronto, however the developer will also integrate the existing heritage buildings on site. The buildings, which have recently been approved as heritage properties, will be a key part of this new tower.

The Entertainment District has been on fire in recent years. It’s being populated by some of the most interesting developments in the Greater Toronto Area,  including Bisha Hotel and Residences, The Mercer, Tableau, Festival Tower, are there are also multiple developments that are still in the planning phase.

The owner of the site has also hired on Page and Steele / IBI Group to design the towers, which upon initial concepts, seem quite contemporary and consisting of glass and steel.
Although not approved yet, the application looks to be moving in a positive direction.

What are your thoughts about the amalgamation of modern condominiums and heritage buildings? Is integrating our future into our past something that we should strive for?
