In Development: 297 College St.

College and Spadina is an area that has been on our radar for a while now. It’s an area that has a high level of potential, and one that we would love to see developed. If Tribute Communities has their way, a new boutique condominium will soon rise there.

297 College St., most recently home to the Zen Buddhist Temple, has recently been purchased by the developer, who has some interesting plans for the site. Tribute is planning for a 15-storey tower with 234 residential suites. The site will also feature 136 parking spaces in a three-level below ground parking garage. The condominium will also feature over 20,000 square feet of commercial space on the first two floors. Although we have no confirmation as to who will be taking up those spaces, there are rumors of a big name grocer moving onto the site.

The area is one that is in transition. Years ago, the area was struggling to hit its mark and featured multiple run down properties. However, with several new mid-rise buildings, new retailers, multiple restaurants, and boutique cafes coming into the area, the neighbourhood is starting to come into its own. There is still room for improvement in the area, and hopefully this development will help lead the charge.
