With all the new development proposals that have been popping up in the City of Toronto, we are seeing a lot of activity in certain pockets of the city. The Entertainment District has multiple projects on the go like 24 Mercer, 327 King St West and the development proposal at 99 Blue Jays Way. Liberty Village has been popular as well, with developers with numerous projects on the go.
One area that really has not gotten the attention of developers is Chinatown. Despite multiple plots of land they do not have a boutique infill condo planned. We have yet to see many applications for the development of this area until recently. Triwin International Developments announced that a new development is planned for 170 Spadina Ave. The plan submitted to the city will see a 17-storey tower with 186 units and a four storey below grade parking facility, which will house 65 parking spaces. Triwin International Developments has hired on Wallman Architects to design the project.
The site is currently a low-rise commercial building that was recently emptied by its major tenant.
We are excited to see, at the Toronto Star’s NewInHomes, when a developer is the first to start a vision and trend for an area or neighbourhood. We are hoping that many follow the trend set by Triwin International Developments and be part of the revitalization of Chinatown and other underdeveloped areas in the city.
Tip of the hat to Urbanation for the rendering.
