In Development: 159 Wellesley St. East

The City of Toronto has received a plan from The Kilmer Group to build a 38-storey condominium tower at the southwest corner of Wellesley and Sherbourne.

The plan foresees 326 suites, with ground floor retail and a four level underground parking lot. The site is currently vacant, following the demolition of the Beaver Gas Station and Baker’s Dozen Donut shop.

Kilmer Group has sought out Quarangle Architects in the designing of the tower. It is presently unknown as to whether Kilmer will market the condominium under their own brand or partner with a high rise focused developer, once it hits the market.

The Wellesley and Sherbourne area has seen some interesting developments over the past few years, most especially, 500 Sherbourne by Times Group and Verve by Tridel. This particular condo is very close to St. James Town, a pocket in Toronto that has been identified as an area in need of infrastructure and development.

Some questions worth reflecting on: How will this development help the area? What do you think of the rendering?
