Most of the new home projects that we report on here at the Toronto Star’s HomesandCondosBlog are high-rise condominiums. Very rarely do we get to write about townhome projects, however thanks to a new development coming to Richmond St. West, we now have one to bring to your attention.
Grand Metropolitan, a developer with some experience building low-rise downtown projects, has submitted a development application to the City of Toronto, outlining a housing plan for 850 Richmond St. West.
The project, called Edition Richmond, seems to be an intriguing one. Grand Metropolitan will bring 18 three-storey townhomes to the area, each of them with their own underground parking garage. Based on initial views, we believe that the architectural design will augment the streetscape aesthetically. The exterior of the townhomes will be cool and contemporary, featuring a mix of black and white precast.
The area of Richmond St. West and Strachan Ave. has been hot for developers in recent years, given its need for housing, but also for the amount of sites that are available for redevelopment.
The use of this site, currently an auto shop, is another prime example of a developer taking an underused pocket of our city and redeveloping it into some much needed housing.
