We’re happy to have some news about the plan to redevelop Buttonville Airport into a massive, master-planning community. Ever since the plan was announced by Cadillac Fairview and the Sifton family (owners of the airfield), Buttonville has been one of our top stories.
It definitely seems like residents are interested in everything and anything to do with Buttonville! Cadillac Fairview and the Siftons recently submitted a new plan to the City of Markham that gives us some new information on the project, including new views of the proposal, as well as some interesting details and timelines.
The 170-acre development will encompass more than 2.8 million square feet of office space, one million square feet of retail, and most importantly, 3.55 million square feet of much needed residential units. Cadillac Fairview also believes that the construction of this development will create more jobs. Construction is proposed to start in 2013, with initial occupancy scheduled for 2015. Another key part of Cadillac Fairview’s vision is transit. The plan calls for aggressive expansion of both the VIA and TTC systems, something that will be needed for a project as important as this one.
Now that we have some more information on Buttonville, what do you think about the development? What are your thoughts on the designs?
